It's winter, but I'm pushing the line that there are few excuses for choosing to hop in a warm car instead of onto a bicycle. Check out my piece about
commuting by bike during these dark days in the current
Women's Adventure magazine. Ignore my reference to rising gas prices. At deadline time, the idea of a gallon of gas for less than $2 seemed insane, yet here we are.

Greetings,Lucy Burningham,
I stumbled upon your "winter riding" article.
It's well written and very informative.
I can identify with winter commuting. I live in Hanover, NH.
I don't have a car and bicycle to work to the local hospital. Commuting in extreme cold weather is mentally challenging and can be painful. Yet, there is a reward. It feels gratifing and there's one less auto polluting.
Best regards,

Charles,
Thanks for reading. I hope you're surviving the chilly months on your bicycle. I experienced the challenges of snow and ice riding last month when Portland got hit by unusual storms, and I developed even more respect for the winter bicycle commuter. I find that no matter the weather or time of year, I always feel better when I arrive by bicycle. That said, I do own a car and I use it.
Lucy
